GSA Geographic Sections

All members can affiliate with one Geographic Section for free. Did you know that you can join multiple Sections?

GSA's six Geographic Sections have their own governance boards and organize scientific meetings in their region of North America. These smaller meetings attract many geoscience students and provide outstanding learning and networking opportunities closer to home. Sections offer travel grants not only to their own meetings but to the GSA Annual Meeting as well. Many Sections offer research grants, too. Click on the "About ..." links below the logos to learn more about your Section.

Coronavirus Information

Most section meetings have been canceled due to COVID-19.

Please check your Section's meeting page for more information, including refund details.

The North-Central Section will host a free, virtual meeting 18–19 May. Get more details on the meeting page.

The health and safety of our members and event attendees are always our highest priorities. For this reason, GSA is monitoring the current status of the coronavirus (COVID-19), and what steps should be taken moving forward.

If the status of a meeting changes, this site will be updated, and registered attendees will be notified by email.

This is a rapidly evolving situation, and we will continue to follow the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization updates for guidance on the most effective and sensible prevention measures.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we work together for the health and safety of all our attendees.

Current Meetings and Section Information

I realized driving back from the 2017 GSA South-Central Section Meeting that this two-day meeting was something like a little university that only was open for a couple of days each year, sharing ideas, and mentoring students. These two-day meetings are the best!”
