Get Involved

The geoscience community is stronger when its members show up—not just as participants, but as contributors, leaders, and champions of the science. However you choose to engage, GSA has a place for you to grow, give back, and make a lasting impact.

A diverse group of people smiling and clapping in a joyous celebration. The mood is cheerful, with a focus on unity and happiness.

Nominate or Volunteer for Service

GSA is a member-led organization—and that means your involvement matters. Nominate yourself or a colleague for a committee or council position and help guide the Society’s direction. Self-nominations are encouraged, and opportunities exist for members at every career stage, including students and early-career professionals.

Deadline: 17 August 2026

Real Reasons from Real Members

Why Volunteering with GSA Is Important To Me

“During my service, I contributed to student recognition and career advancement by granting research awards, expanded my professional network by serving on committees with new colleagues, exposed myself to (formerly) unfamiliar and burgeoning geologic sub-disciplines and methodologies, and learned about leading science topics and prominent geologists working for academic departments and governmental agencies outside of the United States. All geoscientists should consider GSA Committee service as an important part of their professional development.”
