GSA South-Central and North-Central Sections

The 2027 GSA South-Central/North-Central Joint Section Meeting will be held in Lawrence, Kansas, on the beautiful campus of the University of Kansas (KU). Located approximately 56 km (35 mi) west of Kansas City, Lawrence is situated within gently westward-dipping Pennsylvanian strata. The intersection of the Oread Escarpment with the Kansas and Wakarusa River valleys creates a striking cuesta landscape characterized by rolling hills, scenic overlooks, and distinctive geologic features.

KU's historic campus sits atop the Oread Escarpment, and can be seen for miles when approaching from the east and south. At the base of the escarpment, along the Kansas River, downtown Lawrence is known for its historic charm, vibrant arts and cultural scene, locally owned shops and restaurants, and welcoming community. The downtown district is located approximately 1.6 km (1 mi) east-northeast of campus, making it an easy walk or short ride from the meeting venue.
