Society of America (GSA) gears up for its highly anticipated annual
meeting, GSA Connects 2023, set to take place from 15–18 October in the
vibrant city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. An expansive array of researchers
from top universities, institutions, and government agencies will share
groundbreaking data and research findings focused on the latest

Exciting Program Highlights
A Presidential Address by GSA President Christopher (Chuck) Bailey,
"Geoscience at the Confluence," will set the stage for the event, offering
a visionary perspective on the future of the earth sciences.
The Michel T. Halbouty Distinguished Lecture by Susan L. Brantley, "How
Fracking Affects Our Water," will shed light on a critical and timely topic
at the intersection of energy and the environment.
Noontime Lectures: Dive deep into pressing issues with enlightening talks
by experts like Richard Alley, who will discuss "Sea-level Rise: The Solid
and the Scary," and Patrick A. Burkhart, presenting "East Palestine, Ohio:
Train Derailment and Chemical Incineration."
Pardee Keynote Symposia: Five Symposia with invited speakers cover topics
of broad interdisciplinary interest, including addressing society’s urgent
need for critical minerals, the past, present, and future of waste
management, encouraging positive mental health in the geosciences, and
spotlighting positive and diverse female role models.
