Eligibility Requirements

Be a current student member of the GSA Northeastern Section. Not a member? Join or Renew Must be the author or co-author of an accepted paper and be present for the oral or poster presentation. Register for the meeting before submitting a travel grant application. Submit an application through the online Travel Grant Application Form. The form is available on the Students & ECPs page of the Section Meeting website or Connects website during the early registration period only. Use the grant for travel expenses to that meeting.

Application Guidelines

Applications require active GSA Section membership and the following information: your first and last name, email address, mailing address, phone number, abstract title and ID, primary and secondary authors, institution, and confirmation of whether you are presenting. Please note that students may receive only one Section travel grant per meeting. To update your Section affiliation, log into your GSA profile . To add an additional complimentary Section affiliation, please contact gsaservice@geosociety.org .

Application Status Notification

Student travel grant decisions will be communicated through email before the meeting registration cancellation deadline. If your attendance depends on receiving a travel grant and you are not selected, you will be eligible for a full registration refund. Checking in at the Registration Desk (badge pick-up) upon your arrival at the meeting will confirm your attendance; no other check-in will be required. Students and applications must meet the following criteria: The student must be enrolled at an institution within the Northeastern Section [see boundaries] The student must be a student member of GSA. Not sure? Check your membership status. Not a Member? Join or Renew. If more than one application is submitted from one department, the Chair of the department must rank the proposals. Funds may not be used for salaries and stipends and funding may be requested for only one year at a time. Students may submit proposals in two consecutive years, even if funded previously. The online application must be completed during the application period of 15 January to 10 April. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions by mid-May with funds being mailed to successful applicants by the end of May. Funded students are expected to expend the funds as stated in the proposal; return any unexpended funds to the Section Secretary; and submit a 1 page maximum written report of the research and disposition of funds to the Section Secretary within three months of completion of the project.

This will include the purpose and significance of the proposal research, and the methods employed to complete the research. (Recommended length of the narrative is 1-2 pages). Upload to the online application in the Project Upload area (PDF or Word only). Itemized budget. Please include information on all additional sources of funding for the project, including previous and pending sources of funding. Upload to the online application in the Budget Upload area (PDF or Word only). Your project supervisor will be contacted requesting they complete a recommendation form in the online application system. Please make sure your supervisor is aware that they must do this in order for your proposal to be considered. The deadline for all proposals is 10 April.

The Northeastern Section of the Geological Society of America is pleased to offer student travel support to the annual Section meeting (NEGSA) as well as GSA Connects for students who are presenting their research.

Stephen G. Pollock Undergraduate Student Research Grants

Proposal Deadline: 10 April

The Northeastern Section offers grants to support individual research by undergraduates attending colleges and universities within geographic boundaries of the Northeastern Section. Students should have the objective of presenting the results of their research at a Northeastern Section or Annual GSA meeting. The maximum funding allotment is $2,000 per proposal.
