Geoscience for Everyone
GSA is a global geoscience organization advancing the field for the betterment of society. Here, discover why geoscience matters and access trustworthy open-access resources.
Explore The Geology Around You
Geoscience Books & Guides
GSA's public science books make it easy to explore the geology all around you - no expertise required.
- Roadside Geology books turn scenic drives into geologic journeys
- Geology Underfoot books uncover the stories beneath your feet
- Geology Rocks! books bring Earth science to life in accessible, engaging ways.

Field Trips & Short Courses
GSA's field trips and short courses offer hands-on opportunities to explore geoscience in action.
- Field trips are led by experts and take participants directly into the landscapes that shape our understanding of Earth.
- Short courses provide focused, practical training in emerging tools, techniques, and topics.
EarthCache
EarthCache turns the world into a hands-on geology classroom.
An EarthCache is a special type of geocache you can visit to learn a geology lesson developed by the community.
EarthCaches guide people to real geologic sites - no containers required - where they learn how landscapes formed and why they matter.

Field Trip to the Devonian
On this GSA field trip, participants got to explore the Catskill Clastic Wedge in West Virginia, USA, which preserves some of the first soils ever formed on Earth. These soils formed in the Devonian, right as trees were evolving and changing the planet's landscape forever.
GSA Paper Summary - Devonian Mass Extinction
In this video, Dr. Rachel Phillips (also known as @GeoGirl on YouTube), walks through the findings of a research article published in GSA's journal, Geology, by Li et al. (2026), titled "Rising productivity drove marine euxinia during the Late Devonian mass extinctions."
Field Trip to the Jurassic
On this GSA field trip, participants explored ~200-million-year-old lake deposits in Connecticut, USA. This particular lake system is thought to have been deep and stratified, leading to bottom waters that were relatively stagnant and oxygen-poor. This created conditions that favor fossil preservation, leading to the beautiful fish fossils! Field trip participants got to search for fossils in the region and take home their finds.
GSA Connects Meeting Recap
In this video, Dr. Rachel Phillips (also known as @GeoGirl on YouTube), provides a sneak peek into what it's like to attend GSA's annual meeting, GSA Connects, specifically at the Exhibit Hall, where vendors sell their geoscience-related products and merch!
