Description: The course will focus on identifying, describing, classifying, and interpreting the four components of all sedimentary rocks (framework grains, cements, matrix, pore types). How sediments form and evolve as they are transported, deposited, buried, and lithified to become sedimentary rocks will be discussed as well.

Description: This full day workshop will introduce and discuss different microfossil groups such as benthic and planktic foraminifera, calcareous nannofossils, ostracods, and palynomorphs, and their applications for biostratigraphy and paleoecological and paleoclimate reconstructions. Detailed examples of regional and global correlations and paleoceanographic reconstructions will be provided.

Description: This National Science Foundation sponsored workshop will focus on building the professional skills of undergraduate and graduate students with a focus on resume and CV development, networking, and other written and oral communications. The workshop will be interactive and include individual and group exercises, discussion, and presentations. Limited to 20 students.
