SC1. Practical High-Energy Injection in Overburden and Bedrock: Preparation, Tools, Design, Distribution, and Evaluation Illustrated by Case Studies.

Description: The course will provide an in-depth understanding of high-energy injection in the overburden and bedrock. It will present advancements in technology, techniques, and equipment. It will address misconceptions regarding pumps, injection tooling, flow rate, injection point grid spacing, injection pressure, and how injectate distributes. Actual field data will be presented.

SC2. Near Subsurface Microbiology: It’s the Little Things That Count.

Description: Subsurface microbes exist in communities. They drive biogeochemical processes impacting groundwater, mineral deposits, soil, and sediments. Microbial life is parameterized by energy limitations, electron acceptors or donors, and degradable organic carbon. Microbes are vital in carbon sequestration, element cycling, and degradation of complex chemicals. The course will build this picture.

SC3. Stratigraphic Imaging of Geomorphic, Geologic, and Geoarchaeological Landscapes.

Description: Our goal in the workshop is to demonstrate how ground penetrating radar (GPR) can aid in better understanding various geomorphic, geologic, and geoarchaeological environments. This interactive and hands-on workshop will have attendees move through an understanding of the GPR research workflow, including in-class interpretation exercises collated from a variety field settings.
