Description: Subsurface microbes exist in communities. They drive biogeochemical
processes impacting groundwater, mineral deposits, soil, and sediments. Microbial life is parameterized
by energy limitations, electron acceptors or donors, and degradable organic carbon. Microbes are vital
in carbon sequestration, element cycling, and degradation of complex chemicals. The course will build
this picture.
