Description: This short course/workshop will provide students and young and seasoned geoscientists the information needed to understand how to become a licensed professional geologist. Thirty-two states and territories regulate the profession of geology through licensure. This course helps navigate the process through the ASBOG examination.

Description: Participants will practice two 3D modeling techniques for use in the field or laboratory. Exploring both structure from motion and terrestrial laser scanning, we will discuss the pros and cons, what environments are most appropriate for each method, and the possibilities of a combined approach.

Description: Learn to program an Arduino-framework data logger to perform all required functions of a solar-powered monitoring station that collects data from research-grade environmental sensors, transmits to a data portal, and puts sensors to sleep to conserve energy between logging intervals using the EnviroDIY Modular Sensors library.

Description: This ethics course is designed to meet the requirements of the ethics-related professional development hours (2 PDHs) required for licensed geoscientists, engineers, and soil scientists for recertification in Minnesota. The course is designed to help maintain and improve skills and knowledge associated with ethics in professional workplace scenarios. The instructor, Karl Everett, a professional engineer (MN) and geologist (WI) with over 30 years of engineering and environmental experience, will use real-life examples and documented ethic cases for demonstrating proper ethical behavior for professionals.

Description: Our goal for the workshop is to demonstrate how ground penetrating radar (GPR) can aid in better understanding various geomorphic, geologic, and geoarchaeological environments. The hands-on session with in-class exercises will provide an overview of GPR theory, data collection procedures, processing flow, and interpretation based on radar stratigraphic concepts.

Description: This workshop will cover projects since the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and Bayfield County have started the Unmanned Aerial System UAS Program. Topics covered include how do you get started and running with a UAS program from a government perspective, going beyond getting your license, equipment, and software. This will include reviewing successful and unsuccessful workflows of a variety of projects.

Description: Geoscience directly impacts environmental sustainability and health and food sovereignty. The purpose of the proposed workshop is to bring together Native American/Alaska Native (NA/AN) tribal communities, leaders, elders, and cultural practitioners, faculty, students, geoscience and health professionals who engage in various aspects of geoscience, food sovereignty, and human health to emphasize both the importance geoscience plays in environmental sustainability and monitoring and the interconnectedness of geoscience in food sovereignty and thus human health.
