About the Meeting
Opening reception: 21 April 2026
Technical sessions: 22–24 April 2026
The 2026 Meeting of the Cordilleran Section of GSA will take place in Loreto, Baja California Sur, México, 21-24 April. Loreto is an idyllic and historic Sonoran Desert city nestled on the eastern shore of the Baja California peninsula. Loreto lies at the intersection of volcano-tectonics, marine science, and society. Baja California Sur is host to a diverse and beautiful geologic landscape that includes a rich history of accreted terranes, subduction, volcanism, rifting, marine geology, natural resources, and more that will be highlighted during several incredible field trips. The meeting venue, La Misión Hotel, is conveniently located along the malecon coastal boardwalk, at the entrance to central community civic plaza, host to Loreto's historic mission, delicious restaurants, shops, and other attractions related to Loreto's 300 year history as a regional economic and cultural center.
Location
Loreto is located along Highway 1 (Carretera 1) in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur, a short ~6 km taxi ride from the Loreto international airport (LTO). Direct flights to Loreto can be made from Los Angeles (LAX), Phoenix (PHX), Tijuana (TIJ), Guadalajara (GDL), and other cities. Multiple buses (Aguila bus company) drive up and down the peninsula and through Loreto daily.
