Geology Club Meetup

If you are a geology club member or are interested in starting a club on your campus, plan to meet up and chat with other representatives about their activities, goals and accomplishments.
Career Workshop Series
This four-part series will feature career development planning, an exploration of geoscience job sectors, and information on best practices for crafting a résumé and cover letter. Non-technical skills and workforce statistics will be reviewed. The series will be led by workshop presenters and geoscientists. No registration is required and everyone is welcome.
Geoscience Career Program Workshop Part 1: Career Planning and Informational Interviewing

Your job-hunting process should begin with career planning, not when you apply to jobs. This workshop will help you begin this process and will introduce you to informational interviewing. This section is highly recommended for freshman, sophomores, and juniors. The earlier you start your career planning the better.
Geoscience Career Program Workshop Part 2: Geoscience Career Exploration

What do geologists in various sectors earn? What do they do? What are the pros and cons to working in academia, government, and industry? Workshop presenters and professionals in the field will address these issues.
Geoscience Career Program Workshop Part 3: Cover Letters, Résumés, and CVs
Tues., 23 April, 9–10 a.m., Sahara Room, Oasis Hotel
Whether you are currently in the market for a job or not, learn how to prepare the best résumé possible. You will review numerous résumés helping you to learn important résumé dos and don’ts.
Geoscience Career Program Workshop Part 4: GeoGradApp Workshop: Illuminating the Pathway to Graduate School in the Geosciences
Mon., 22 April, 3–5 p.m., Sahara Room, Oasis Hotel
Interested in grad school? Complimentary to geogradapp.com, this workshop will lead you through the tips and tricks needed to apply to graduate school in the geosciences! Attendees will be invited to participate in a research study involving a post-workshop online survey and a follow up online survey six months after their participation in the workshop to assess both their understanding of the graduate application process and their experiences with the workshop. Any student who agrees to participate in the study will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card, regardless of whether they complete the surveys.

Students who are GSA members and who register for the meeting are eligible to apply for student travel grants from their respective sections.
