Description: Magmatic structures, including mineral fabrics, folds, faults, internal contacts, layers, tubes, troughs, pipes, and small diapirs occur in plutons. We will (1) present field, structural, and geochemical techniques useful for evaluating these structures; (2) work with participants on several case studies; and (3) discuss the potential uses of these structures in magmatic systems.

Description: We will cover the fundamentals of using thermal infrared spectral imagery for geologic/earth-science applications, such as percent silica in volcanic rocks, distinguishing alluvial fans of different ages and provenance, and fault studies. Examples and processing steps will use data acquired by The Aerospace Corporation’s hyperspectral airborne sensor “Mako.”

Description: This course serves the needs of faculty, environmental consultants, and undergraduate and graduate students in the earth/environmental sciences with an interest in hydrogeological/environmental careers. Fundamental concepts of Sr/Pb isotopes are discussed in light of how results can be integrated with other geologic/environmental data to resolve remediation issues via specific case studies.
