Any one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or a related field (i.e., any physical or biological sciences, or other disciplines such as engineering or geography);
  • Equivalent training through practical experience;
  • Employment in geological work; or
  • Teaching geology at the college level (join as a K-12 teacher if you teach at the non-college level).

After 25 years of membership and age 65, professional members move to Senior Member/Fellow status, entitling them to reduced dues. After 30 years of membership and age 70, dues and Division membership fees are waived for life.

Membership Dues:


Member term: One calendar year.
If you reside in and are a citizen of a country or territory whose economy is classified other than “high-income” by the World Bank, your dues will be reduced.
