Field Safety - Code of Conduct

For my safety and the safety of others, and for maintaining the high quality standard of GSA field experiences, I understand that my participation in a GSA field experience requires me to follow the rules below in regard to my conduct while on the trip:

  • Following the instructions of trip leaders at all times.
  • Never initiating or being involved in any activity that is dangerous to me or others.
  • If alcohol is allowed on a trip, not using alcohol during field activities, or transportation to/from field activities, and moderating my alcohol intake during any free time so that I am able to be in control of my actions at all times and able to participate safely in all field activities.
  • Not participating in sexual misconduct of any form. Sexual harassment is a form of discrimination and is unlawful. If sexual harassment is occurring to me, or if I witness sexual harassment occurring to others on the trip, I should report this behavior to the trip leader, a GSA representative, and/or to law enforcement.
  • Never leaving the group or the accommodation/camp unless I have the permission of trip leaders.
  • Respecting the properties, structures, areas and vehicles at and on which activities occur, and observing all rules and regulations of the properties, structures, areas and vehicles.
  • Not using field trip vehicles for any purpose other than as permitted by trip leaders.
  • Not possessing or using any illegal drugs while on the trip.
  • Not possessing weapons, including firearms, unless part of a trip leader equipment package.
  • Bringing and wearing appropriate clothing and footwear at all times.
  • Showing respect to others, including non-participants and the general public, at all times.
  • Having appropriate behavior at all times, including in the evening hours.
  • Following all other rules of trip leaders and/or GSA with respect to the trip and any trip activities.
* Please note: Cell phone use in the field or trip vehicles is permitted only at the discretion of trip leaders.

I understand that if I do not observe all of these rules, GSA and/or a trip leader, at their discretion and at my expense, may take actions in response to such violations, including removing me from the trip or any trip activities, returning me to the trip accommodation/camp or point of trip origination, and requiring me to forfeit any amounts paid by me with respect to the trip.
