GSA COVID-19 Assistance and Relief Effort for Students
GSA CARES invites applications for financial assistance from student members of GSA.
The Geological Society of America is deeply invested in the success and well-being of its student
members, all of whom are essential to the future of GSA and the geosciences.
The Society recognizes the profound effects that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on our student
members. GSA and the GSA Foundation are pleased to announce GSA CARES (GSA COVID-19 Assistance and
Relief Effort for Students), an initiative that will provide immediate monetary support to GSA
student members who have experienced pandemic-related hardships affecting their education or career
If you are a student member of GSA (as of 15 April 2020) and you have financial need
directly related to the pandemic, we invite you to apply for financial support. Please
see below for more information and the link to the online application.
Any GSA student member (as of 15 April 2020, including 2020 graduates) may apply. Only one
application per student member will be considered.
Each successful applicant will receive a minimum of $200 from GSA CARES.
Review of Applications:
All applications will be reviewed by a committee composed of GSA leadership.
Applicants will be funded on a first-come, first-served basis, until either the funding is exhausted
or until 15 June, the closing date for applications for GSA CARES funding.
All personally identifiable information will be redacted before the committee reviews each
Below is a link to the application. We recognize that this is a short, seemingly impersonal form for
a deeply personal need. We are not minimizing individual situations, just presenting a streamlined
form that will enable GSA to disburse the funding as soon as possible. The individuals behind each
request are the reason for GSA CARES.
