Assistant Professor, Geoscience, Utah State University Eastern

Utah State University's Geoscience Department seeks applicants for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in geology at the USU Eastern campus in Price, UT, with a start date of August 1, 2020. We seek candidates who conduct innovative teaching at the introductory level and geoscience research in areas that may include: geoscience education, online and distance learning, and physical and historical geology that can take advantage of eastern Utah’s regional geology. This includes but is not limited to sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, paleoecology, dinosaur research, geoarcheology, Quaternary geology, Mesozoic geology, petrology, economic geology, and field geology.

Successful candidates will complement our Department’s current strengths and demonstrate outstanding potential for excellence in teaching through multiple delivery modes to statewide students, in addition to local students in Price through online course development, interacting videoconference, face-to-face traditional classrooms experiences, as well as the potential for a research program involving statewide undergraduate and graduate level students.

The Department of Geosciences is especially interested in candidates committed to fostering inclusive learning environments as well as to promoting an environment of diversity and excellence through their teaching, research, and service. Qualified candidates should be devoted to mentoring students and enhancing their educational experiences.

Minimum Qualification: By the start date, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Geosciences, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching through multiple delivery modes of online courses, interacting videoconference, and traditional face-to-face experiences. Potential for a research program leveraging the central-Utah location and involving statewide undergraduate and graduate students.
