Assistant Professor, Geosciences, Western Carolina University

The Geosciences Program at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2020. We seek a hydrologist, or allied discipline, with a strong background in the geosciences and significant field experience. The specific area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to those candidates who complement departmental faculty strengths. Potential areas of interests include water quality, climatic change, land cover dynamics, and water resources. The Geology program is in the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resources, which is also home to major programs in Natural Resource Conservation and Management and Environmental Science. Teaching responsibilities include introductory courses, two soils and hydrology courses (one for natural science majors and one for construction management majors), and advanced courses in the candidate’s area of specialization that serve majors in our program and department.

The department has a strong focus on experiential learning, undergraduate research, and regional engagement. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to innovation and excellence in teaching, develop a research program that includes some regional focus, provide research opportunities for students, and seek external funding to help support our mission. WCU is an Equal Opportunity/Access/Affirmative Action/Pro Disabled & Veteran Employer.
