The Department of Geosciences at Auburn University invites applications for a 9-month non-tenure track faculty position in Physical Geology/Dynamic Earth beginning January 2024. The position is renewable subject to annual review of performance, need for services, and available funding.

We are looking for a geophysicist whose research uses seismology and/or seismic geophysics to focus on topics relevant to energy and the energy transition, such as energy exploration and development, geothermal energy, hydrogen energy storage, and/or geological carbon storage. Areas of interest can include, but are not limited to, the acquisition and interpretation of passive and active seismic data to characterize subsurface properties, structures, and fluid movement. The candidate will serve as the primary instructor of undergraduate and graduate courses on topics of seismology and geophysics for the energy transition, and contribute to undergraduate general education teaching. We are seeking two graduate students for an NSF-funded project to examine the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary in Antarctica through sediment coring and surface sampling. The project is led by Dr. Tom Tobin  and Dr. Becky Totten,  both in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Alabama,  as well as collaborators at other institutions around the country. Positions will be fully funded (stipend, tuition waiver, benefits) by a mix of GRA (Graduate Research Assistant) and GTA (Graduate Teaching Assistant) support, and students may be eligible for internal fellowship awards. The Maryland Geological Survey seeks a Program Chief to lead and supervise a dynamic 14-person team that focuses on marine geology and environmental geology. The role of the Program Chief includes leadership, mentorship, budgeting, scientific expertise, team development, grant management, and project management. The team is a dynamic team that currently focuses heavily on sediment transport and mapping including sidescan sonar, multibeam bathymetry, marine magnetometer, shallow seismic, shoreline erosion, sediment quantity and quality. Additionally and equally important, this team also performs geologic mapping in all of Maryland's geophysical provinces, critical mineral studies, geohazards, and data preservation. The balance of these items is dependent on grants and state-provided funding. This is an exciting position for an experienced geologist who is looking to expand their role but still desires to remain deeply embedded in the science. The Program Chief will also be expected to work closely with stakeholders, other state, local, and federal agencies, and academia in many projects.

The program chief will have an office at the Maryland Geological Survey located in Baltimore, Maryland; however, travel throughout the State will occasionally be needed.

Overview
The Geologist will serve as a Program Manager for Geosciences within BES CSGB in Germantown, MD. BES supports fundamental research to understand, predict, and ultimately control matter and energy at the electronic, atomic, and molecular levels, providing the foundations for new energy technologies and supporting DOE missions in energy, environment, and national security. The CSGB Division supports basic research to provide fundamental knowledge of chemical reactivity and energy conversion that is the foundation for energy-relevant chemical processes and systems.

The Program Manager will provide scientific and programmatic expertise in geosciences and interface with other core research areas within the Division such as catalysis, separation science, heavy element chemistry, and condensed phase and interfacial science. Activities include:
• Provide program management for CSGB Geosciences: this program supports basic experimental, theoretical, and computational research in geochemistry and geophysics that have clear connections to clean energy (including geothermal energy, hydrogen, and carbon capture and storage via mineralization) or recovery of critical elements;
• Review/draft budget documents;
• Execute proposal peer reviews;
• Manage scientific communication including scientific review of press releases, scientific updates for the CSGB Geosciences website, and preparation of research highlights;
• Participate in laboratory research reviews; and

The Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Rice University is inviting applications for the Pan Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. We are seeking candidates with independent research interests that intersect with one or more faculty within our department and who contribute positively to the diversity of the department through outreach or other means. The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California, Davis, seeks an outstanding faculty member for the Louise H. Kellogg Endowed Chair in Geophysics. This chair will be appointed at the associate or full professor levels and is open applicants from all areas of Earth and planetary geophysics. The Louise H. Kellogg Endowed Chair in Geophysics honors the memory of an inspiring scientist, mentor, and leader, dedicated to increasing equity, inclusion, and diversity throughout the scientific community. The appointee is expected to develop and maintain a vigorous externally funded research program, to engage students through teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to provide visionary leadership that enriches and expands scientific excellence in the geophysics community and beyond. The successful candidate will be appointed as an academic year (9 month) tenured faculty at the appropriate level and must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Earth and planetary sciences or a related field, and a least 5 years of relevant professional experience following award of the Ph.D.

The endowed chair position is a five-year appointment, with option for reappointment. The Chair recipient will be selected in accordance with university procedures for endowed chair/professorship appointments (APM 191, UCD 191). All endowed chair appointments are reviewed at least every 5 years. In addition to exemplifying excellence with the honorary title, the Louise H. Kellogg Endowed Chair holder will receive supplemental financial support for teaching, research, outreach, and other related purposes, with the amount subject to the financial market performance of the endowment. The teaching load will average 3 quarter-long courses per year. The salary range for this position is $120,000-$290,000. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

The Museum of Texas Tech University (MoTTU) seeks applications for the position Curator of Paleontology. The Jackson School of Geosciences (JSG) at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) seeks a new Director for the Bureau of Economic Geology (Bureau), the oldest (1909) and second largest (~250 FTE) organized research unit at UT (https://www.beg.utexas.edu/ ). The primary responsibilities include operation, calibration, maintenance, oversight, and training for: a Zeiss EVO MA10 SEM equipped with an Oxford Aztec EDS, a Rigaku XRF spectrometer, a Rigaku XRD, and an IsotopX NGX noble gas mass spectrometer for Ar/Ar analyses. Additional responsibilities include serving as the environmental health and safety coordinator for the department and overseeing the mineral separation facility. The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in research, co-mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and contribute to a course in Instrumental Methods.
