GeoCorps™ America and Geoscientists-in-the-Parks
Are you a fan of National Parks and other public lands? Tired of teaching summer school to earn extra income during your summer vacation? Then check out the GeoCorps America and Geoscientists-in-the-Parks (GIP) programs!
GeoCorps America (www.geosociety.org/geocorps) is a program of the Geological Society of America, which partners with the BLM and U.S. Forest Service to offer short-term, paid geoscience opportunities on federal lands.
The National Park Service (NPS) Geoscientists-in-the-Parks (GIP) program (www.geosociety.org/gip) works with partners to match people ages 18 - 35 years old with short-term, paid, geoscience and STEM opportunities with NPS.
Through GSA, you can apply to opportunities in both of these programs. These programs are not just for students. Each year, education and interpretation positions are available and teachers are excellent candidates to fill these positions. Other project areas include geology, hydrology, paleontology, mapping and GIS, minerals, soils, glaciology, geo-hazards, karst, and more. Applications for summer positions are generally due at the beginning of February.
