GSA currently offers two mentor programs to Section meetings.
These are the Roy J. Shlemon Program
in Applied Geoscience and the
John Mann Mentors in Applied Hydrogeology. Please see these
links for additional information about these programs, www.geosociety.org/mentors/shlemon.htm
and
www.geosociety.org/mentors/mann.htm.
The Shlemon Mentor Programs
are designed to extend the mentoring reach of individual professionals
from applied geology to undergraduates and graduate students attending
GSA Section Meetings. Over free lunches, mentors and students discuss
professional opportunities and challenges that await students after
graduation. Every registered student will receive a free ticket
to the Shlemon Luncheon along with his/her badge; however, attendance
is limited.
The Mann Mentors in Applied Hydrogeology
Program presents Mentoring opportunities for undergraduate,
graduate, and recent graduate students with declared interest in
applied hydrogeology as a career to interact and network with practicing
hydrogeology professionals. This relaxed, but focused, small-scale
event features a free meal for student and professional participants.
Every registered student will receive a free ticket to the luncheon
along with his/her badge; however, attendance is limited.
t's easy to participate! Just contact Jennifer Nocerino, jnocerino@geosociety.org
or (303) 357-1036. She will work with you to make arrangements for
both mentor programs. The commitment by the Section to host the
programs should take place by June 30 of the year previous to your
scheduled Section meeting. This timeframe is linked to promotional
efforts for the programs. The Local Chair will need to supply catering
contact information to the Program Officer. Each of these programs
is underwritten by funds donated to GSA Foundation. Thus, the cost
of these programs to the Sections is minimal. The program covers
the cost of catered food involved in these programs. However, if
there is a cost to use the meeting room/space, then the Section
would pay this cost. It is the responsibility of the Program Officer
to settle all accounts for catering costs incurred in support of
these programs.
