The Cordilleran Section is the oldest of the sections. It was formally approved on August 26, 1901, when the Society itself was only 13 years old. The first organizational meeting of the Section, held in Berkeley in 1899, included the presentation of 11 scientific papers.

VIEW PROPOSED BYLAW CHANGES
The Constitution and Bylaws of the Geological Society of America were recently revised. To keep our Section's Bylaws congruent with those of the Society, we now need to revise the Section Bylaws. In addition, updates are proposed to keep the Bylaws consistent with current practice.
