Institute for Earth Science
and The Environment

The Institute for Earth Science and the Environment supports the role of the geosciences in addressing the environmental challenges of the 21st Century, by promoting

  • the geosciences as integral to global efforts for sustainable resource development, management, and use.
  • the geosciences as critical to the effective management of healthy ecosystems.

The Institute was created in 1989 and grew under the stewardship of founder, Dr. Fred A. Donath for the following 6 years. Dr. Donath's original mission, "to offer a geoscience interface between the private and public sectors and the geological community on matters of the environment" remains our central goal. Dr. Donath believed that investing in the Institute meant "investing in the wise use of the Earth."

Fred Donath and the visionaries who continue to provide IEE Support envision a future in which society values and uses geoscientific information every day.
