Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood CEO Vicki Cowart to Speak This Evening at GSA Annual Meeting
Boulder, CO, USA – Thomas Jefferson once said, "Science is my passion; politics is my duty." Two prominent Denver figures, Mayor John Hickenlooper and Vicki Cowart, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, have also given expression to both science and public service. They'll share their experiences with scientists attending the Geological Society of America Annual Meeting in Denver this week.
Hickenlooper, a former geologist, business owner, and real estate developer, and Cowart, former State Geologist and Director of the Colorado Geological Survey, will speak at GSA's Geology and Society Division Distinguished Lecture Series on Monday evening, 29 October, at 5:30 p.m. in Room 705/707 of the Colorado Convention Center. Media are invited to attend.
"At a time when so many pressing public policy issues are science-based, the involvement of scientists – and especially earth scientists – is critical," said Marilyn Suiter, Vice Chair of GSA's Geology and Society Division. "We can learn a good deal from our colleagues who are investing their careers in service to the community."
