Exploring Boulder Creek And South Boulder Creek Ecosystems And Flood Hazards

Boulder, CO, USA – A bicycle field trip on Saturday, 27 October 2007, in conjunction with the 2007 Geological Society of America Annual Meeting will explore important aspects of Boulder Creek and South Boulder Creek. Media are invited to participate.

Two major scientific themes of the trip are: understanding stream ecosystems in an urban environment; and locations of potential 500-year and 100-year flooding. Ecosystem topics will include waste water treatment and effects of contaminants on the fish population, as well as the presence of invasive species. Flood hazard topics will include where flooding would likely occur and concepts used to estimate flood levels.

The 16-mile bicycle ride will utilize City of Boulder paved trails. The trip begins Saturday morning, 27 October, at 10:00 a.m. Cost of the trip is $66 with bike rental or $45 with use of one's own bicycle.
