Dear [ insert recipient's name ]

I'm an active member of The Geological Society of America. We are currently in the process of developing the technical program for the Society's 123rd annual meeting, which will be held in Minneapolis, 9-12 October 2011. I think your work could be an important addition and I'd like to encourage you to submit an abstract.

To give you some background, GSA is a broad, unifying scientific society with 24,000 members. (Visit www.geosociety.org for more on the Society.) We expect 7000+ geoscientists representing all disciplines to attend the annual meeting. Go to www.geosociety.org/meetings/2011/techProg.htm to view the technical program and access session descriptions.

You can submit your abstract online at gsa.confex.com/gsa/2011AM/cfp.epl. The abstract fee is $35.00 for professionals and $20.00 for students. The deadline is 26 July 2011.

NEW this year: GSA is setting aside 20 booth spots in the exhibit hall for Digital Posters. The four topical sessions which will run as Digitial Poster sessions are T95, T110, T149, and T184. An abstract submission fee of $80 for digital posters will apply to help offset the equipment costs.

I'd be happy to talk with you about the meeting and answer any questions you might have regarding your decision to participate.

We're looking forward to a great technical program in Minneapolis. I hope you'll be part of it.

Best regards,
[ insert your name ]
