The goal of this half-day Pardee Keynote Symposia is to discuss the causes, processes, and consequences of rapid environmental changes in the Cretaceous greenhouse world, from both marine and terrestrial records. This symposium is connected to UNESCO IGCP 555 and a recently started ICDP project. Processes that operated in the Western Interior Seaway will be compared specially with those of the interior Songliao Basin in northeast China, as a complete Cretaceous lacustrine record was recently derived from the 2600 meter composite core in the Songliao Basin (SK-1 drilling program). 9 speakers from USA, China and Austria will give talks on various aspects of the topic. Invited Chinese scientists will provide insights into the results of the first drilling phase of that projects.
