Travel Grants

The Travel Grant Application Deadline
has now passed (17 Sept).

Three ways to get travel grants

  1. GSA Student Travel Fund
  2. Section Travel Grants
  3. Minorities, Women, and Persons with Disabilities Student Travel Grants

These are three completely separate grants.
NOTE: It is GSA policy that students may apply for multiple grants for the Annual Meeting but they may only receive one grant.

Applying for a travel grant does not register you for the meeting.
You must register for the meeting BEFORE you can apply for a Travel Grant.
Registration requirement does not apply to Travel Grant #3.

Notification of grant status will be made prior to the cancellation deadline, so if your attendance is dependent on a travel grant and you do not receive it, you may obtain a full registration refund. Those receiving grants must pick up their checks in person (with photo ID) on site in Denver.

The online application form will be available when registration opens in early June.

1. GSA Student Travel Fund
Travel Fund FAQs

GSA and the GSA Foundation have each contributed $1,000 to this fund plus meeting attendees are being given the opportunity to contribute to the fund via their Annual Meeting registration form. The number and amount of awards will be based solely on contributions received.

100% of the contributions received will go to help fund student travel. If there is an excess of funds left over, the remaining money will go back into the Student Travel Fund for next year's annual meeting.

Make sure you're eligible before you apply.

The money, when combined with equal funds from the Sections, is used to help GSA Student Members (grad & undergrad) travel to GSA meetings. For more information, please visit the Section Web sites listed below or contact the Section secretary directly.

3. Student Travel Grant for Minorities, Women, and Persons with Disabilities

The GSA Minorities and Women in the Geosciences Committee and the GSA Foundation announce the availability of student travel grant funds for one or more eligible students to attend. The primary goal of this student travel scholarship is to encourage the participation of females, minorities, and persons with disabilities in the geosciences at national meetings. Each of the successful candidates will receive GSA membership for 2008 and an average cash award of $500 to be used for roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, meeting registration, and/or meals.

The application deadline has now passed for this meeting.
