Earth Scientists on Capitol Hill
Workshop on Communicating with Congress
Sunday, October 28, noon -1:30 p.m.
Colorado Convention Center, Room 608
FREE — registration not required, but space is limited.
Are you prepared to speak to your elected representative about science?
Learn how to communicate with a representative, senator, or congressional staff member so that you get heard. This workshop will cover both what to do and — just as important — what not to do. Participants will learn tips and techniques to speak effectively about science to policy makers.
Workshop discussions will be led by Peter Folger, Specialist in Energy Policy, Congressional Research Service, and Catherine O'Riordan, Director of the U.S. Science Support Program at the Joint Oceanographic Institutions.
You will meet GSA's new Director for Geoscience Policy, Craig Schiffries, as well as the current Congressional Science Fellow, Maria Honeycutt, and GSA's 2006-2007 Congressional Science Fellow, Craig Cooper. They will talk about their experience as Fellows and about how you, as a geoscientist, can impact actions on Capitol Hill.
Beverages and snacks will be provided.
