Duties and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for three main areas: 1) create, manage and coordinate aspects of membership marketing/recruitment, 2) administer the student research grant program, and 3) administer awards programs.
This position works closely internally with, but not limited to, Membership Development department, Information Technology staff, and the Executive Office. Primary external groups include: grant applicants/recipients, award nominators and recipients, grant and awards committees, GSA Division and Section officers, and prospective member markets.
Primary Responsibilities
Membership Marketing/Recruitment
- Proactively research, identify and pursue prospective new member markets and opportunities, and determine how best to promote membership.
- Identify and secure new prospective member leads.
- Create and implement all stages of recruitment efforts/campaigns (e.g., various methods/placements, write persuasive copy, embed tracking methods, analyze results, etc.).
- Working with the Director, develop membership recruitment plans, strategies, goals and timelines.
- Working with the Director, communicate with and engage external groups.
- Create membership collateral materials.
Grants and Awards Programs
- Identify and coordinate changes and improvements to online applications, procedures, etc.
- Advertise and place announcements in various GSA communiques.
- Communicate and follow up with award nominators, grant applicants, and Division leadership to ensure all requirements are met.
- Serve as staff liaison to several committees. Support committee chairs, communicate and follow-up with committee members, identify issues for discussion, prepare e-packets, facilitate review and selection processes, and prepare written reports for GSA Council.
- Communicate with all awardees, collect personal data for advertising purposes, and design and produce PowerPoint slideshows for Annual Meeting presentations.
- Order all awards and prepare award certificates and plaques for presentation.
- Coordinate Annual Meeting on-site awards’ ceremonies and recognition events including all logistics, rehearsals, etc.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Prepare and monitor program annual budget.
- Support Membership Development and GSA initiatives as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Professional Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in an above-average capacity. The requirements listed below are representative of the background, skills and abilities required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing or communications preferred.
- Minimum five years of successful experience in membership recruitment and/or marketing.
- Minimum five years of experience in project management.
- Ability to easily coordinate multiple, detail-oriented projects simultaneously.
- Possess instinctive research skills.
- Aptitude for establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships, including ability to work with committees.
- Necessary professional competencies include: initiative, communication, critical thinking, creativity, analytical reasoning, and process management.
- Graphic skills desired.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software; Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to quickly learn new software and systems.
The selected candidate should be willing to travel at least two times per year. Qualified candidates will be subject to a background check.
Working environment/Physical Requirements
Extensive computer work—six or more hours per day; multiple projects and multiple deadlines that create a demanding work environment are standard; must be able to move and lift luggage, equipment and boxes.
