This photo, looking west down Washtucna Coulee, shows an area where surface water was formerly present, but now gone. In this area, at the end of Day 1, we will discuss the physical geology of Columbia River basalt aquifers, and ground water pumping history. The combination of pumping, geology, and recharge (or lack there of) accounts for much of the dewatering the region has experienced.
