BLM, NPS, USFS Project Descriptions due to GSA
Representative who will supervise the position, submits a project position description to GSA through on-line system. Position description should describe a geoscience project and the qualifications a person should have to be eligible for the position.
December–January
Applications accepted
GSA advertises GeoCorps positions to members & campus representatives.
Applications accepted.
1 February
Postmark Deadline
Applications due to GSA
Applicants apply directly to GSA. Application postmark deadline.
No applications accepted after postmark date.
20 February
Screening committee meets to review applications
GSA committee conducts initial screening of applicants using the qualifications that are listed for each position to screen those who qualify and those who do not.
27 February
Applications mailed to Parks, Forests, BLM. Phone interviews begin.
Qualified applications are mailed to agency supervisors. Supervisors conduct phone interviews with top candidates. Supervisor makes position offer to their top candidate.
26 March
Interview Deadline
Interview deadline. Supervisor must select a participant by this date.
28 March
Deadline to Accept/Decline Offer
Deadline for the selected applicant to accept or decline the position offer.
1 April
Acceptance Agreements sent to selected participants to sign
GSA sends acceptance packets to selected participants. Selected participant must sign an agreement to officially accept the position and agree to terms of the GeoCorps program.
May-Aug
Participants work for 12 weeks
GeoCorps participants work on geoscience projects for 3 months during summer.
12 Sept
GeoCorps final report deadline
GeoCorps participants send final report & evaluation materials to GSA. Must be received by this date. Supervisors submit an evaluation form to give feedback on participant & program.
