Assistant Professor of Geological Sciences
University of Alaska Anchorage

The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Alaska Anchorage invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geological Sciences to begin August 2009. The successful candidate will support the University of Alaska mission of teaching, research and service, and help to deliver the highest quality undergraduate education. Minimum qualifications for this position are a PhD in Geological Sciences (required at the time of appointment) or a very closely related field, a demonstrated record of outstanding university teaching at the undergraduate level, and the ability to secure external research funding. Teaching will include instruction of lower- and upper-division courses that will contribute to both the General and Environmental Geological Sciences tracks of the major in Geological Sciences. In order to complement our existing strengths within the department, the successful applicant should be broadly trained in the area of environmental geology. GIS skills are also highly desirable. Research expertise that has a strong field-based component is preferred and we expect that the candidate will supervise undergraduate research projects.

Review of applications will begin November 14, 2008, and continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit all application materials (CV, letter of application, statements of your approaches to teaching and research in an undergraduate setting, contact information for three professional references, and unofficial transcripts) online at www.uakjobs.com. (Receipt of official transcripts is a condition of employment.)
