LOCATION
Puerto Rico is not only an idyllic tropical setting—it also features stunning geology and thousands of years of history and culture. The wide variety of geologic and geographic settings on the island (100 × 35 miles) include a world-class karst province, a central mountain range with igneous and metamorphic terrane, serpentinites, economic mineral deposits, a classic rudist outcrop, the only tropical rain forest in the U.S. National Forest system, limestone cliffs, and active tectonics.
