REGISTRATION

There's still time to save on the 2012 GSA Annual Meeting & Exposition, "GEOSCIENCES: Investing in the Future," at the Charlotte Convention Center, 4–7 November 2012.

Events are filling up, so register before midnight 1 October (MDT) to take advantage of lower registration fees and to ensure your space on field trips, short courses, special events, and guest tours.

Remember, speakers must also register for the meeting in order to present research. Badges can be picked up onsite at the Advanced Registration Desk in the Charlotte Convention Center starting Saturday, 3 November. Please bring a copy of your registration confirmation with you.

On-site registration hours:
Saturday, 3 Nov. 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
Sunday, 4 Nov. 6:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
Monday, 5 Nov. 7 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Tuesday, 6 Nov. 7 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Wednesday, 7 Nov. 7 a.m.–11 a.m.

Student Travel Grants
Travel grants are available for GSA student members. You must be registered for the meeting before you apply for a travel grant. Application deadline is Monday, 1 October.

Housing
There is currently plenty of availability at Westin, Omni and Marriott; and very limited availability at all other hotels. Deadline 9 October.

GSA International Distinguished Lecture Tour — October Tour Dates
GSA is proud to introduce the inaugural International Distinguished Lecture Tour, arranged under the auspices of the GSA International Section. The 2012 lecturer is Victor R. Baker who will be giving lecture topics on Megafloods on Earth, Mars, and Beyond and Geological History of Water on an Earth-like Planet.

GSA recently hosted the highly successful 1st International EarthCache Mega Event on Sunday, 2 Sept., in New Gloucester, Maine. This event, which connects earth science education to the world of geocaching, was attended by over 700 people. Participants attended workshops about geocaching and earth science, met fellow EarthCachers from around the world, explored Maine while hunting for geocaches and EarthCaches, and joined GSA for a post-event field trip to practice mineral identification skills.

The 2nd International EarthCache Mega Event is scheduled for 7 Sept. 2013, and will take place in St. George, Utah. Mark your calendars now and please join us for next year’s event to learn more about this unique earth science education program.
