A Trial Judge's Reflections After Kitzmiller v. Dover

A presentation and discussion with the Geology & Society Division’s 2006 Distinguished Lecturer, Judge John E. Jones III, the federal judge who was assigned to the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District bench trial, which was the first direct challenge in federal court against a school district that mandated the teaching of intelligent design. Last December, Judge Jones ruled that the mandate was unconstitutional. For this action, he was named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of the Year.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author William J. Broad will give a presentation in the GSA Bookstore on The Oracle.

The Minority and Women in the Geosciences Committee has put together not ONE, but TWO fantastic Geoscience Days for area high-school students on 24-25 October.

Food, buses, and program have been arranged. All that's needed now are volunteers to spend a day sharing wisdom, fun, and the joys of a geoscience career. Six to eight volunteers are needed for each day. Please share this invitation with your colleagues. Contact Deborah Nelson for more information or to volunteer.
