GSA and six other geoscience organizations have sent a joint letter to the Superintendent of the Grand Canyon National Park highlighting the need for clear distinctions between scientific and creationist literature sold there.

- The 2003 Annual Meeting in Seattle was covered in the December 12th issue of SCIENCE. It features William Dickinson's work on geological keys to early human migrations across the Pacific, and contradictory data offered by Brian Mahoney and Randolph Enkin, surrounding the travels of scraps of tectonic plate along the western margin of North America.
- Research by Claire Belcher, et al., arguing that previous estimates of thermal radiation released by the K-T impact are too high (Dec. GEOLOGY) was reported in NATURE "News and Views in Brief" (December 11).
- Regional press reported on the work of Brenda Beitler, et al. (Dec. GEOLOGY) on bleaching of the Navajo Sandstone and a possible link between climate and its hydrocarbon reservoir.
