Dear [ insert name ]
I'm an active member of The Geological Society of America. We are currently in the process of developing the technical program for the Society's 120th annual meeting, which will be held jointly with the Soil Science Society of America, the American Society of Agronomy, the Crop Science Society of America, and the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Sciences, with the Gulf Coast Section of SEPM. This year’s meeting will be hosted by the Houston Geological Society at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, on 5–9 October 2008.
I think your work could be an important addition and I'd like to encourage you to submit an abstract.
To give you some background, GSA is a broad, unifying scientific society with more than 21,000 members. (Visit www.geosociety.org for more on the Society.) We expect 10,000+ geoscientists representing all disciplines to attend this joint annual meeting.
Go to www.acsmeetings.org/2008/ to view the technical program and access session descriptions. Be sure to look at the joint session categories, which encompass 10 relevant and multidisciplinary themes declared by The International Year of Planet Earth (health, climate, groundwater, ocean, soils, deep Earth, megacities, hazards, resources, and life).
You can submit your abstract online at gsa.confex.com/gsa/2008AM/index.epl. The cost is $35.00 for professionals and $20.00 for students. The deadline is 3 June 2008.
I'd be happy to talk with you about the meeting and answer any questions you might have regarding your decision to participate.
We're looking forward to a great technical program in Houston. I hope you'll be part of it.
