The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum hosted its 19th Induction Banquet in Leadville, CO on 9 September 2006. Attendees donned Victorian attire for the celebration.

Who was R.A.F. Penrose?

The slate of 2006 inductees included R.A.F. Penrose, Jr. (1863-1931) who was an eminent economic geologist as well as an early president and great benefactor of the Geological Society of America. He established the Penrose Medal in 1927, and his bequest to GSA upon his death established the Foundationís research grants program. Penrose wrote important studies for state and national geological surveys and more than 60 articles and books. He was director of several mining companies, a college professor, and a mine owner, manager, and consultant.
