Judges needed to select GSA winners at student International Science & Engineering Fair
This Year GSA is supporting a special prize at the International Science & Engineering Fair (www.sciserv.org/isef/). This is the world's largest pre-college science competition, bringing together 1,300 students from 40 countries. The GSA award will recognize the top three entries that demonstrate a high level of understanding of earth science concepts and the use of innovative methods to explain these concepts (a simple volcano model will not be a winner!)
The judging of this international competition is in Phoenix, AZ in early May (10-12 May) and we have been asked to find four judges who are willing to select the GSA prize winners (1st prize $1000, 2nd prize $750, 3rd prize $250). We also need to find one judge who is willing to attend on presentation day to represent GSA on the podium when our awards are handed to the students.
Full commitment details can be found at www.sciserv.org/isef/judges/schedule.asp. Unfortunately there is no funding available to support judges in this undertaking... just the feeling of satisfaction that you will have in encouraging students to continue on a path of geoscience discovery!
If you are interested in being one of the four judges, and you have a Masters degree or higher, please let Gary Lewis (glewis@geosociety) know as soon as possible. The ISEF staff will need details in the very near future. Please feel free to pass on this information if you know someone else in your area who might like to be involved.
