Invite a Colleague to Submit a Topical Session Proposal for Salt Lake City - 2005

Please pick and choose from the draft text below as it applies to integrative science sessions or other geoscience fields of study.

Dear [insert name]

I'm an active member of the Geological Society of America. We are beginning to prepare for the Society's 117th annual meeting, which will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, 16-19 October 2005. I'm contacting you because I think your work in (fill in the blank) would be an important addition to the technical program. To that end, I'd like to encourage you to submit a proposal for a topical session.

To give you some background, GSA is a broad, unifying scientific society with 18,000 members. The Society is aware that much of today's exciting geoscience is interdisciplinary in nature; it's happening where the geosciences overlap with allied and applied sciences. GSA's Annual Program and Joint Technical Program committees are encouraging more topical sessions that focus on integrative science, complementing the classic geology that has been the strength of our annual meetings for so many years.

The deadline for session proposals for the meeting is Tuesday, 11 January 2005. Time is short but the requirements are brief! For now all that is needed is a proposed title, rationale for the session, and some information on speakers you would like to include.

I'd be happy to talk with you about the meeting and answer any questions you might have regarding your decision to participate. You can read about GSA at www.geosociety.org, and find specifics on how to submit a proposal at gsa.confex.com/gsa/2005AM/sessionproposals.epl.

We're looking forward to a great technical program in Salt Lake City. I hope you'll be part of it.

Best regards,
